Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a non-surgical, minimally-invasive cosmetic injectable treatment that utilizes a filler solution to create a desired shape on a targeted facial area.

Dermal fillers may be used to restore lost volume, add fullness, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, or enhance one’s natural appearance by shaping and filling out certain facial features, such as the cheekbones.

QUESTIONS

Dermal Fillers FAQs

Dermal fillers work by “filling out” areas of the face with a non-toxic substance, such as hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, or calcium hydroxylapatite. When an experienced, licensed professional strategically administers dermal fillers beneath the epidermis, patients experience a beautiful lift and enhancement of their natural features.

There are several benefits of using dermal fillers to enhance your appearance and help you achieve your aesthetic goals! The top dermal filler benefits include:

  • Added plumpness for a glowing, healthy complexion
  • Restored volume, which may have been lost due to aging
  • Smoothed wrinkles and fine lines
  • Natural filler substances that benefit the skin (i.e. hyaluronic acid)
  • Long-lasting effects – experience six months to one year of beautiful results
  • Immediate results and minimal procedure downtime
  • Filling out acne scars for smooth, revitalized skin
  • Adding volume to specific areas, such as the lips or cheekbones
  • May boost collagen production over time for beautiful, healthy skin

If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of dermal fillers or would like to schedule a consultation, contact the friendly team at Barrett & Geiss Dermatology. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about dermal fillers.

Yes, dermal filler injectables can be made of several different filler substances. The most common being hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and polyalkylimide.

At Barrett & Geiss, we use hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers to help our patients achieve natural, beautiful results.

Dermal fillers do not prevent wrinkles but they may lessen the appearance of them by filling out deeper folds and fine lines. Furthermore, certain dermal filler substances may stimulate the production of collagen, contributing to a more youthful complexion.

No, dermal fillers are not permanent, as the filler substance will naturally break down over time. While some dermal filler results may be longer lasting (six months to one year), we recommend that patients return for follow-up sessions every three to four months to maintain their ideal appearance.

While dermal fillers and Botox are both cosmetic injectables treatments and may deliver similar results, they are very different in the way that they work.

Dermal fillers work by “filling” out areas of the face, restoring lost volume and adding desired fullness, while Botox “freezes” facial muscles to limit movement and prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
